Product Description
LEGO Racers, start your engines! Rocket Racer is back and he's teamed up with the toughest competitors in the galaxy to bring racers of all ages this awesome challenge. Players must win their races, keep their cars on the road and muster all their adventure racing skills to find and collect the elusive Golden Bricks.

Amazon.com Review
Games seem less susceptible to sophomore slump than movies or books. Quite often, when a game sequel comes out, it has everything you liked from the first game, and some more, too. Happily, LEGO Racers 2 is just such a sequel.

When the game begins, you get a chance to build your own car, and even build and name your own racer from "people" pieces. Building cars is fun without even playing the game. If you're not happy with a car you've built, or just want to build more, the main menu lets you build all the cars you want with a huge variety of virtual bricks.

Though at heart it's a racing game, LEGO Racers 2 offers more than just racing. A large solo adventure game lets you explore five worlds. The worlds represent some of LEGO's lines that you might already have bricks for, such as Life on Mars and Arctic Explorer. Each world has places to explore, with minigames to discover and power-ups that will improve your car's performance or smash the other cars in a race. And, of course, there's plenty of racing, even in the adventure game.

Once a world has been unlocked in the adventure game, you can access the world from the race menu. From there, you can race for time, or against a friend in two-player mode. Two-player mode also allows you and a friend to battle each other, racing around the worlds looking for power-ups to smash your opponent's car.

Adults and kids will have fun playing this game--together or separately, it doesn't matter. LEGO Racers 2 is varied enough to appeal to different kinds of game players, and fun enough to offer repeat-play value. This racing game definitely belongs in the winner's circle. (Ages 6 to 12) --Jeff Quick

Amazon.com Product Description
This sequel to LEGO Racers features five new 3-D worlds in which to challenge your opponents, gradually improve your vehicle, and eventuallytake on Rocket Racer for the title of King of the Road. This game combinesracing action with story-based fun that takes players from world toworld as they encounter a colorful cast of racing opponents and worldbosses. Among the features improved over the previous version of LEGORacers are improved detail in crashes--now you can see each part of a caras it explodes on impact--and the environment's greater responsiveness.

1 out of 5 stars Problematic on modern PCs   December 1, 2009

I've never tried LR1, so no comparison there. This review is for the PC version of Lego Racers 2.

The game has lots of potential, but we'll never see it. My 5 year old computer (2.8GHz P4/6600GT) far exceeds this 9 year old game's requirements, and perhaps that is part of the problem. First of all, the sound was a total mess until turned down to medium. Then it still races ahead then stumbles over itself between the beat and melody.

Steering response from our CH steering wheel has an inexplicable 1/2 second delay, which makes playing really, really frustrating, especially for a child. There is no pedal support except as a digital button, at full pedal depression, which is really hard to use and disappointing. The game really demands an 8 button joystick, while most affordable joystick or flight yoke/pedal combinations (like ours) have only 4. How many people are going to be playing this on a PC with a full (expensive) Joystick/Throttle/Pedals system to provide enough buttons? This might be some kind of PC vs Console control mismatch.

As others have stated, the first mistake and you drop to last place and stay there. Or no mistake, as you WILL get bumped out of first place by an aggressive bot competitor. Expert perfect driving will net you 7th place (next to last) or maybe 6th if you are lucky and use the weapon and powerups.

Trying the Adventure mode, we got stuck on the beach trying to talk to Sparky at the training level. We could bump into him while he spoke "..." and that was it. Since we cannot continue, we cannot unlock any higher levels. Because of that, the (unrelated) Arcade mode (where the youngest children will spend most of their time) is locked on a just few tracks on Sandy Beach.

The game has so much potential, fun scenery, and music. It may have worked well at one time on Windows 98/early patch level. However it is all lost as most levels are locked out, and getting ahead is impossible as it is nearly unplayable on an old Pentium IV system with fully patched XP Pro, good luck with anything newer.

Like most kids games, this was published and immediately forgotten. No patches or support for XP/Vista/7 is available. You may have better luck than us, but you'll need luck.

1 out of 5 stars Should not be named as a sequel that suggests an upgrade   December 22, 2008

I took this game off my computer. My son and I both got frustrated with the game play. One mistake and you're essentially out of the race. It should have a skill level option to make some aspects easier but it doesn't. As another person indicated, only one person can save a game unlike the old one.

Once a race/adventure is over, moving to the next is long and painful.

Overall, if I had wanted a more realistic racing game instead of just a fun family experience, I would have picked a different title. My expectation of Lego is fun first!

5 out of 5 stars As good as the first   October 23, 2008

This game met my expectations, and beyond. It is even better than the first game. Creative, and colorful. This is one of the BEST racing game I ever played!

4 out of 5 stars better than the first   February 20, 2008
Happy Yeah (Taipei Taiwan)
My boys, 5 and 8, loved the first game and badgered me to get this one. They were not disappointed. Even I can tell that the graphics are better, and the courses are more sophisticated and exotic. They cracked up when the guy lost his car and had to start running. The 2 boys could also cooperate in the game, which is great. If you don't mind the fact that it is, afterall, just another racing game, you should get it if your kids are this age. I think it is great for "little" racers. At least they could tell that Lego world is not like the real world. My son asked me if people drive like that in the real world.......

5 out of 5 stars A Real Review for Serious Buyers   April 7, 2007

Now I know a lot of people have given this game bad ratings, some because of install problems, some because they thought it wasn't as good as the original. Well guess what? THEY ARE BOTH GREAT GAMES!!! Lego Racers 1 is my most memorable PC game, the characters, the levels, the fun. And I am a strong fan of the second as well. The worlds are enormous(there are FIVE, count em, FIVE), the races aren't too easy, but not that hard, the customization level is good, and it has great graphics.

It is just an overall GREAT game, like the original.

Some lows....

......hmmm

Maybe

-Bosses can be a bit hard.
-Can run slow depending on computer

Thats it
