Intriguing Plot Twists
In previous games, the war between the Allies and Soviets was coming to a close with the Allies nearing victory. In desperation, the Soviets created a time-travel device that they've used to assassinate Albert Einstein before he is able to develop the weapon technology the Allies later use to defeat the Soviets. Upon returning, they notice a new world, and there is a world war taking place between three groups for control of the world.

Play As Three Different Factions for Varied game play
In Red Alert 3, you have the choice to play as the Allies, the Soviets, or the Empire of the Rising Sun. Each faction has its own story-line and distinct units with advantages and disadvantages that you have to master in order to win. The new faction to the series is the Empire of the Rising Sun, derived from Imperial Japan, with an all-new cast of units and characters.

The three factions have many differences, exemplified by their wildly different types of units. The Soviets, for example, have armored attack bears, Allies have the Dolphin ship which can high jump and use a sonic attack, and the Empire of the Rising Sun features such quirky units as a giant transforming mecha and ninjas. As they've done with the series, EA injects humor into the game when possible, keeping a smile on your face as you wage war.

Fight on Land, in the Air, and on Sea
Red Alert 3 has land units, air units, and naval units, all integral parts of the game. Unlike most strategy games that don't bother with naval warfare, Red Alert 3 makes controlling the seas an essential part of the game. Controlling resources in the seas and mounting attacks from all directions are strategies that must be employed to achieve victory.

Cooperative Mode Lets You Team Up with Your Friends
Red Alert 3 has a fully co-operative campaign mode where you and a friend can play together to achieve victory. This means that you have to develop a strategy together, as well as execute it in synch in order to win. If your friends aren't online, you can also choose one of several AI commanders as your teammate.

Play Against Your Friends in Multiplayer
With the different units and play mechanics of each faction, you and your friends will have a great time playing against each other, perfecting different strategies to best suit the units you have and the maps you play on. And thanks to the balanced game play, no one will have an unfair advantage.

For previous fans of Command and Conquer, Red Alert 3 will provide the same light-hearted game play, but with more units, more strategies, and more fun. Newcomers to the game will soon see what all the fuss and laughter is about.

4 out of 5 stars Good game, just some nasty DRM   August 10, 2010
Anthony Wathen (Naches, WA USA)
I was never really a Red alert fan until I began getting into the rts genre in general. RA3 Starts as a fictional scenario that Einstein gets vaporized, so the nuclear bomb never exists, and since they did that, the japanese still exist. Gameplay is alright, you got lots of interesting units like the kirov or the hero units which can rack up some damage. The graphics are not too bad for their time but I've seen better on an rts. The multiplayer is pretty fun, and of course the thing I cannot leave out. The soundtrack. Love it; the music is just in my range of interest, and it makes the game more engaging. As you know this game also has limited installs on it, which is bs even for us that own it cause us gamers like to repetitively reinstall the os for performance optimization, so before you think about your drm next time ea, be a little more intelligent on your decisions. Please

3 out of 5 stars Anything Could Be A Little Better   August 5, 2010

I can definitely agree with both sides of the arguement. Some hate it, some love it. I guess it depends on if you're a cynic or not. The Red Alert series was the first RTS I played, and it is what got me interested, and my brother obsessed. I find that this game is loads of fun, provided that you Actually. Get. The. Game. Working. I got it for Christmas and my brother and I were ecstatic. But then it wouldn't run. First the video card wasn't good enough, then you needed internet registration...one thing after another. My brother assumed the disc was bad, as we had everything we needed to run it. We returned it, got another version, but it still wouldn't run. Eventually, almost a year later, we got it working.

I do have to complain about the stupid features they've gone and burdened consumers with. First of all, the internet thing is not nice. Some people don't have good internet connection. I didn't for a long time. Further, the constant updates online are a pain. I have more important things to do...like conquering the battlefield. And nothing is perfect. More than once, the game has frozen up on me after playing a couple missions or skirmishes. Ah, well. C'est la vie.

But other that those quarks, the game is loads of fun. It's silly, but I think that was intended. Think about it, War Bears and Destroyers that can go on land? Over the top, yes. Stupid, no way! And the cast they've gotten is great. Sure, they could have worked on their acting, but it's funny to see people like Kelly Hu, George Takei, Jonathan Pryce, and those others in a game like this. Music is fun to listen to as well. So are the comments made by your units in different situations. Soviets and Allies at each others' throats again. Classic. New faction adding the facts of todays world. Clever. The Japanese really are industrious and techno geniuses. They have to compensate for their limited space on a bunch of islands.

Sure, anything could be better. You can always criticize anything in some way. But don't be downers. Find the good things in life. Once this game was actually running, it was worth the trouble.

3 out of 5 stars A dumbed down garish parody of the real thing.   June 19, 2010

Update -- OK, I'll admit that getting George Takei to play the emperor of the Empire of the Rising Sun was cool. I played through that whole campaign just to see him.

-------------------------
This new "Red Alert" could have been called "Yellow Alert". It's really not that challenging even on "hard" mode. I mean, your ore refineries are build for you at the beginning of each episode. You have an "ally" to hold your hand and even do your job for you if you can keep him/her from getting wiped out in the beginning. I wish I could turn the "ally" off, but I can't.

I could go on, but it's sufficient to say that it's almost like the soul got ripped out of this game. Certain aspects that made it challenging and exciting (like exploring territory, finding out-of-the-way resouces on your own, setting up clever supply lines, or being able to play on your own without help!) have been taken away. It's like some clever marking people got together and said to themselves "You know, this Red Alert game can still make money, so let's remake it with garish graphics, ultra low budget cut scenes, and we'll make it easy enough so any stupid kid can be a winner without any realy stress or geniune effort".

I just got done playing through the original Supreme Commander, and it was a lot more fun.

At least I didn't have any technical problems on install. It auto installed the patches and was good to go. Maybe it pays to buy something last. I'm sure glad I didn't pay more for it.

This game has excellent, classic C&C gameplay. Only con is EA requires an active internet connection anytime you want to play.
