Mass Effect 2 is the sequel to BioWare's hit space-based role-playing game (RPG), Mass Effect. A single player adventure, Mass Effect 2 allows players to continue the adventures of the fully customizable series hero, Commander Shepard, as you take on a whole new adventure and cast of supporting characters. Features new to this latest release in the franchise include the ability to import game save files from the original Mass Effect game to continue the adventure in an unbroken fashion, a new damage system, a more flexible dialogue game mechanic and more. Story Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new danger has emerged. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying threat mankind has ever faced. To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy’s most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, doubters say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong. The return of Commander Shepard. View larger. | A new cast of characters. View larger. | Along with familiar faces from the past. View larger. | Gameplay An space-based action RPG like its predecessor, gameplay in Mass Effect 2 revolves around the player's particular version of Commander Shepard and continuing development of this character as the game proceeds. As the game opens a variety of character classes are made available to the player, with talents, both exclusive and general, associated with each. With experience these talents are leveled up, resulting in the unlocking of related abilities and/or entirely new talents. The player has the ability to customize their Commander Shepard in a number of ways including physical appearance, gender, and certain aspects of their personal history, with the rub being that these choices can influence things like available missions, dialogue choices with non-player characters (NPCs), and character background. Accompanying this main character are a number of preset supporting characters that the player can direct and develop relationships with, which again, will alter the outcome of the story. All the characters from the original game make an appearance in Mass Effect 2, but the immediate characters surrounding Commander Shepard are new. Additional new features that players can expect to experience include new alien races; a more realistic damage system; a new heavy weapons system allowing for maximum damage; a regenerative health system; a dramatic increase in the number of character animations available to Shepard; and updates to the dialogue mechanic used when conversing with NPCs. Integration with the Original Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 allows players of the original Mass Effect game to import save games to continue the story of their own Commander Shepard. In doing this, the decisions that were made in the first game will affect the events of the second game. In addition, characters from the first game will return, as long as they were not killed off by the player in the first game. On the other hand, new players coming to the series for the first time in Mass Effect 2 will start a brand-new character, discover the events of the previous games as they progress and embark on a thrilling stand-alone adventure that does not require the previous game for play. Key Features - Futuristic Weapons - Choose from 19 different weapons, including devastating heavy weapons that can end a battle in seconds.
- Elite Specialists - Recruit up to a dozen of the galaxy's most dangerous operatives to help you in your mission. Train and equip your team to survive insurmountable odds.
- Explore the Galaxy - Scan planets to uncover unique secret missions in the Mass Effect universe.
- Integration with Original Mass Effect - Players of the first Mass Effect can import save games to continue the story of their own Commander Shepard. New players will find a thrilling stand-alone adventure awaits them, a polished and action packed journey that surpasses the first game in nearly every possible way.
- Intense Third-Person Combat - Increased intensity with precision shooter controls to let you control the action and overcome insurmountable odds.
- New Damage System - New location based damage system allows for targeting of key weak points, blasting off limbs, igniting enemies, or crippling and disabling enemy troops.
- Character Customization - Choose a player class, customize your appearance, and tailor your own abilities and strengths. As you progress, so do Shepard’s abilities.
- Improved Dialogue Mechanic - Improved NPC conversation system where Commander Shepard can take matters into your own hands – interrupting or using force to get the answer required.

Great Cinematic Game August 23, 2010 B. V. Dam (California, USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I hesitated to get his game as Mass Effect 1 received lukewarm reviews. This is a lot of fun with great graphics and a very cinematic feel. It can be a bit cumbersome to go through all the dialogue to stay in touch with what is going on in the game but it is worth it for the immersion experience. The voice acting is excellent and the dialogue is done well. Unlike many games with cheesy lines and poor acting, this is on the scale of a decent Hollywood movie. If you are into run-n-gun like Left for Dead, do not buy this game. If you like RPG Shooters, BUY THIS.
The battles are fun albeit a bit unchallenging so far but fun none the less. The weapons and mod systems are easy to use and controlling your squad is straight forward (but challenging to master, thankfully) via to a well designed interface. The slick thing is there are various elements needed to build and research upgrades and such you need to locate given amounts to obtain new items. Although there is no rhyme or reason as to where to look for these (it seems you stumble on them) maybe that was part of the design.
Your choices in dialogue do have an effect as I have saved and went back and tried a different tact with different results.....very cool. You can be a ball buster, fight, threaten and control with an iron fist or a nice guy helping others or whatever blend you choose and your character builds on the fly. While there is a point system to assign to skills, it is hassle free and simple.
From playing in an unfolding story to battling, gaining info, researching and earning new skills & weapons along with some of the general missions to find things that are needed and transfer to those in need, this is a mercenary, bounty hunter, scavenger game that so far been fun. Lastly, I generally prefer 1st Person but the camera and angle in this are excellently done so I have adapted to this quickly and like it (unlike Gears of War)

mass effect 2 = best game ever July 30, 2010 healthnut (Meadville, PA) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've played my share of video games, and from a mature standpoint, this is the best game ever! Period. The characters are so real that I felt like I was in a movie. The characters are great and story line superb.I've played it thru so many times I lost count, and am still discovering new things. It's a mature game that doesn't dumb you down, but allows for constant interaction. Voices are great (Martin Sheen, awesome)and I loved the romance angle! We need more of that. You feel good after playing it; not like a homicidal killer.
cheaper than the store July 23, 2010 Alexander B. Morsch 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Brand new and about $20 off retail. I would buy more games from this seller, especially with new releases, shipped within a couple days. A+ service
Great follow up to one one of the best SciFi RPGs on the PC July 20, 2010 O. Allen (USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The good: Great improvement on the game-play (more like a First Person Shooter than in Mass Effect 1), Great and epic story that is enhanced when you help your team mates face their personal issues. The required exploration can sometimes get tedious, but can turn up some good surprises.
Great music, as well as presentation. Graphics has been improved over the original and fewer graphical glitches.
RPG elements have been reduced considerable compared to the original (personally I prefer the changes made). You spend less time moving weapons and their enhancements around, you don't have to worry about what amour to outfit your team mates with and there are less abilities to allocate skill point to. In my opinion, this makes the game-play more focused as well as each team mate more appropriate for specific tasks.
If possible, please play Mass Effect 1 and import your saved game into Mass Effect 2; it makes the experience more fulfilling.
The Bad and the Ugly: (why the 4 stars on the fun side of the game).... there were random crashes especially when I was attempting to assign abilities to short cut keys. Sometimes my character would get stuck above the environments or within walls while exploring, this however should not discourage anyone who is considering this game.
I will highly recommend it for anyone who likes First Person Shooters but is weary of the whole RPG thing; this is a very tame RPG and would appeal to anyone who is new to RPGs.
